Bright Young Gems _ by Imogen Belfield

Designer Blog
Bright Young Gems _By Imogen Belfield

Last week I completed my first show at International Jewellery London, at Earls Court. It was the most amazing experience to exhibit my work there and to have my first experience at a Trade Show, normally only showing during London and Paris Fashion week’s. And to top it off, I was awarded the Bright Young Gems Award. I was hand selected by Hilary Alexander  of The Daily Telegraph, Vivienne Becker of the Financial Times How to Spend It, Julia Yule of Glamour Magazine, Jessica Diamond from Wallpaper* Magazine, and Bec Clarke from Astley Clarke, to win the prestigious award.
As well as there being stands on show with rows of sparkling diamonds, and precious stones, there were the leading designers with their beautiful designs on show also, all within the Design Gallery section.

Hilary Alexander curated catwalk shows, with her trend report for Auntumn/Winter on the runway. One of the big trends was big and bold gold necklaces and rings. Designs were daringly extravagant, with gem stone embellishment, strands of chains, and multiple pendant fixtures and detailing. The Cubes of Gold Ring, Fool’s Wreath Necklace and Diamond Galactic pieces from my Equilibrium, Rockoco and Fool’s Gold collections were all used in the trend reports that were published daily in the International Jewellery London magazine, as well as in the daily seminars, as key designs that matched the trends perfectly.

August_Sheppard style 's note

Kings Road never fails to deliver a stylish fashion fix! It is an absolute must-destination for all worth their Laboutins and I can never help but feel inspired when I take a trip to this trendy part of London. What makes Kings Road so special is it's independent boutiques (but you will of course find good, old high street chains such as Zara, French
Connection, All Saints, Warehouse etc. as well) and it's people always dazzle with fashionista sparkle.
I went to pay a visit to very chic boutique ‘Austique’  (
http://www.austique.co.uk/) on 330 Kings Road, and it is not only a beautifully presented shop but also made even more attractive by its wonderful staff.  Friendly and knowledgable, the girls happily show you the latest ‘must haves’ and advise on latest colours, shapes etc.

A definite winner for finding the perfect summer dress and really cute, original jewellery.

I also absolutely love ‘ Anthropology’ on 131 - 141 King's Road (www.anthropologie.eu/uk), which offers an eclectic mix of stuff for the home, clothing, accessories and art.

Browsing here is fun and you will always find something exceptional.  Anthropolie is definitely the antithesis to high street chains and their store concepts are amazing.

Look out for unusual bags and chic tops, which will carry you through from day to night.

I am also a big fan of kitch-crazy-fun Ad Hoc London on 153 King's Road ( http://www.adhoclondon.co.uk/ ).

Some of the things you find here are a little risque (if you know what I mean?!) but check out their fun tights, cool sunnies and cheekysloganed T-Shirts.

But Kings Road would be nothing without its stylish shoppers and I managed to snap a few this week to show you what people are wearing. You have to know that the weather has been playing havoc with our style wardrobe and in one day, you might experience four seasons (almost!). So it has been quite difficult to dress weather-appropriate.  Here are a few girlies, who managed to look cool and weather the storm of erratic weather stylishly!

Casual but smart

Cute and summery
the leather belt give this outfit an edge

Sophisticated look
the graphic-patterned gilet adds texture

A bright top will make any outfit pop!

Mixing patterns and colours skilfully -
will add sophistication to a day look

Bright accessories will liven up any rainy day ;-)

Absolute Chelsea Chic
Lovely Mira is a student at Central Saint Martins

As you can see a real mix of different looks but that is what makes Kings Road such an exciting place to visit. And in early July it is extra fun because most shops have their summer sale on. Hand me the credit card!
